The Weekend Part 2
Yesterday, Adam and I spent a nice little Valentine’s day at our new favorite plant shop, Sprout Home.
This store is amazing and has every kind of exotic plant you can think of. It’s so fun!
A couple weeks ago Adam asked if I would make him a terrarium. Terrarium?? What’s that? Well it’s almost like a plant fish bowl. They’re super easy to make and here is how we made ours:
Step 1: First we have to make sure we have all the materials.
- A bowl. You can use almost any kind of container, but we liked this one because it has a curved lip with a smaller opening. This is so the condensation will help sustain and water the plants and almost create its own eco-system.
- Rocks. This is for the bottom of the terrarium. It helps drain the water.
- Charcoal. This is the second layer that helps to eliminate odors.
- Plants. Make sure to choose plants that are similar and can co-habitate together.
- Potting Soil. Make sure it’s light and fluffy.
- Figurines. These just add a little character to your terrarium.
- Moss. This just makes the top of the terrarium a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Step 2: Pour the rocks in. You want to fill it up about 1 inch.

Step 3: Pour the Charcoal in. This is another inch on top of the rocks.

Step 4: Pour some dirt in and strategically start to place your plants in the bowl.

Step 5: Place the moss around the plants to cover up some of the dirt.

Step 6: Strategically place your figurines and make up a little story about what they’re doing. These are pirates that are hunting the wildcat-thingie.

And Voila! You now have your own brand new terrarium. Make sure to place it in medium-light and water it about once a week.
